SUMMARY:Two Lights for Tomorrow
DESCRIPTION:Two Lights for Tomorrow is a nationwide initiative to commence the celebration of the 250th birthday of the United States of America. The famous ride of Paul Revere occurred overnight on April 18 – 19, 1775. Two Lights for Tomorrow commemorates that famous ride and uses the imagery of that shining light today as a uniting call to action for our citizens to celebrate and serve. \nJoin us at the Idaho State Capitol on Friday, April 18, 2025, at 12 pm for the Two Lights for Tomorrow Capitol Event. The event includes guest speakers and performances from Idaho students.\nThe Capitol event includes:\n\nPerformances by the Boise State University String Quartet\nOpera Idaho Children’s Chorus renditions of the Star-Spangled Banner, High Flight, and This Little Light of Mine\nOpening remarks from Senate Pro Tem Kelly Anthon\nHighland Elementary 6th Graders reading of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s Paul Revere’s Ride\nIdaho State Regent, NSDAR, Janice Beller: The Legacy of Patriotic Actions in Idaho\nTwo Lights for Tomorrow Proclamation and lantern lighting ceremony led by Governor Brad Little and First Lady Teresa Little\nInvitation to participate by ISHS Executive Director Janet Gallimore\n\n \nWe invite educators, parents, and students to complete the following activities to participate in this nationwide campaign.\nActivities:\nPaul Revere’s Ride Interactive Timeline\nCreate a large timeline on the classroom wall or at home, marking key 1775 events leading up to April 18th. Students can add illustrations and facts about Paul Revere’s ride.\nTwo Lights Diorama\nStudents create dioramas depicting the “Two Lights” signal from the Old North Church. Use shoe boxes, LED lights, and craft materials.\nMidnight Ride Comic Strip\nStudents design a 6-panel comic strip illustrating Paul Revere’s famous ride, emphasizing the importance of communication during the American Revolution.\nLantern Craft\nMaterials: Mason jars, battery-operated tea lights, construction paper\nInstructions: Cut colonial-lantern-inspired designs from construction paper and glue them to the outside of the jar. Place the electric candle inside to create a “signal lantern.”\nPaul Revere’s Ride Scavenger Hunt\nCreate a list of items related to the midnight ride (e.g., horse, lantern, church) for students to find around their home or neighborhood.\nFamily History “Ride”\nStudents ask parents to share a story about their heritage using the America250 in Idaho “Echoes of Idaho” story-capturing portal to reflect on their own “journey” through history.\nLearn More\nTwo Lights for Tomorrow Resolution Template (Idaho)\nTwo Lights for Tomorrow Educational Toolkit\n2 Lights for Tomorrow Video\nDAR 2 Lights for Tomorrow Coloring Sheet\nPaul Revere Lantern with Poem Black and White\nPaul Revere Lantern with Poem Full Color\n
