Celebrate a glowing moment in nuclear history at EBR-I Day

Step aboard the “Science Sleigh” this holiday season and journey into the heart of nuclear history.

On Saturday, Dec. 20, the Idaho National Laboratory invites the public to a special anniversary celebration at Experimental Breeder Reactor-I (EBR-I) — where, in 1951, scientists lit four lightbulbs with atomic power for the first time.

The museum is typically open in the summer. This free, family-friendly event offers a rare winter opportunity to explore the historic EBR-I museum, enjoy complimentary hot chocolate and hear a festive EBR-I themed holiday poem read by Liza Raley, INL ambassador and former local radio personality.

Drive yourself or sign up to ride an INL bus. Two bus routes are available:

Morning tour: Departs at 9 a.m., returns at noon
Afternoon tour: Departs at 12:15 p.m., returns at 3:15 pm.

The museum is located 50 miles west of Idaho Falls on U.S. Highway 20. Hours for Dec. 20 are 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Admission is free.
