Community Classroom Committee’s America 250 – Shot Heard Round the World
Members of the Lt. George Farragut Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution—descendants of American Revolutionary War Patriots—have created a 30-minute educational program for 5th–8th grade students in the Coeur d’Alene area. The presentation highlights the upcoming America 250 celebration on July 4, 2026, with a focus on the 250th anniversary of the “Shot Heard Round the World” that happened at Lexington and Concord on April 19, 1775. The program features a sing-along of the 13 Colonies, a reading of Ralph Waldo Emerson’s “Concord Hymn”—originally read at the 100th anniversary of the battle—and personal family stories shared by descendants of those who fought in the American Revolution, helping students connect with history in a meaningful and memorable way. An essay contest will be promoted. The prompt is: America will celebrate her 250th birthday on July 4, 2026! If you could go back in time and meet one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence for lunch, who would you choose? How did their actions and service contribute to our Country becoming independent?
