Let’s Talk About It: America 250

On July 4, 2026, our nation will commemorate and celebrate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The journey toward this historic milestone is an opportunity to pause and reflect on our nation’s past, honor the contributions of all Americans, and look ahead toward the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond.

This Let’s Talk About It series encourages readers to return to the founding ideas and engage with them long after the 250th has passed. These classic and contemporary works offer a vital lens through which to view not only our past but also our present challenges and hopes. The story of the American Revolution is not over—it is still being written. Revolution literature is a bridge between generations, one that continues to carry the voices of the past into the conversations of today. These texts help us listen to the voices that shaped our nation, so we can better understand the future.

Join us for scholar-led discussions of three books:

January 7: Common Sense, Thomas Paine with scholar Jennifer Black
February 24: 1776, David McCullough with scholar Susan Bailey
March 24: Founding Mothers, Cokie Roberts with scholar Jennifer Black
Attendance for all 3 sessions is strongly encouraged. The library will provide copies of each book in advance. Books must be returned at the end of the program.
