Thomas Jefferspud Writing Contest
America250 in Idaho proudly announces The Thomas Jefferspud Writing Contest for Idaho students. The writing challenge encourages young people from ages 12-18 to write and submit original, unpublished essays or short stories focusing on a revolutionary figure who was instrumental in the nation’s founding, explaining their impact on America and why we should continue to honor them today. Student writers must live in Idaho and attend public, private, or homeschool. Entries will be divided into age 12-14 and 15-18. Word count is between 250 and 500 words.
The top winner of the two age categories will receive a $250 contribution to an IDeal – Idaho College Savings Program account. The top 24 essays – 12 in each category – will receive official certificates from the State of Idaho and have their work published in a booklet and in an eBook published on Amazon.
Submissions are due by March 1, 2026, and winners will be announced on May 1. Additional requirements are listed below on the entry form.
Note: All information is private and will not be shared with the exception of the first name of the entrant.
